Ergonomic Shair Features

Why is investing in an ergonomic chair important for your health and wellbeing?

Most modern work places require employees to be at their desk for long hours. This change in work styles requires better, ergonomic office or task chairs to ensure that employees are comfortable at their desk. Unless the chair can be adjusted for height and inclination, employees are likely to develop various health problems such as back pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, and even neck pain. All of these lead to lower levels of productivity. We recommend that any business that requires employees to be at their desk for long periods of time invest in the best possible task chairs.

Through extensive research conducted by Steelcase, AIM has learned three key observations regarding ergonomics and office seating. Typically office chairs are classified as ergonomic when they have an adjustable seat height, seat depth and lumbar support. Proper lumbar support allows there to be ample support for the lower back so that your spine is in just the right position to allow for good posture. Most ergonomic chairs have a seat pan with a waterfall front (one that curves down) that prevents the seat from catching you behind the knees. The seat pan should also be contoured to allow even weight distribution and it should be comfortable to sit on.

OBSERVATION 1 | THE SPINE: THE SPINE DOESN’T MOVE AS A SINGLE UNIT EACH INDIVIDUAL’S SPINAL MOTION IS UNIQUE
OBSERVATION 2 | BACK SUPPORT: THE UPPER AND LOWER BACK REQUIRE DIFFERENT SUPPORT
OBSERVATION 3 | MOVEMENT: WHEN YOU LEAN BACKWARDS YOUR PELVIS MOVES FORWARD
